Frequently Asked Questions

WORSHIP QUESTIONS
What is Worship like?
Our worship is a traditional Lutheran service that centers around the liturgy and communion. We follow the time-honored practices of hymns, prayers, and scripture readings, creating a sacred space for reflection and connection with God. After the service, we gather for a coffee hour, a warm time of fellowship where everyone is invited to share in community and grow together in faith.
Do I need to dress up?
For church, you can dress up with a shirt and slacks or keep it more casual with jeans and a nice top. Just choose what feels best for you!
Who Attends?
ALL ARE WELCOME! Our church welcomes everyone—members, first-time visitors, past members, families, neighbors, and people of all ages, races, and denominations. Everyone is invited to be part of our community!
What do Lutherans believe?
A Reconciling Lutheran Church is one that deeply values the inclusivity and love of Christ for all people. Rooted in the teachings of grace and acceptance, these churches seek to welcome everyone—regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or background—into full fellowship within the body of Christ. The goal is to create a community where all are invited to experience the unconditional love of God and find a place of belonging. By embracing diversity and reconciliation, a Reconciling church reflects Christ's message of love, unity, and grace for all.

FOOD PANTRY
Who does the Food Pantry serve?
The food pantry serves families in need who are referred by a counselor, social worker, or school community resource specialist from the North Kansas City or Park Hill School Districts. We also offer food assistance to those referred by a member of St. James Lutheran Church. With compassion and the love of Christ, we seek to provide food and support to those in our community who are facing difficult times. Our mission is to be a source of help and hope, showing God's care for all.
How Can I Volunteer in the food pantry?
The food pantry is lovingly run by our dedicated church member volunteers in partnership with Harvesters. Together, we work to provide essential food assistance to those in need, reflecting Christ’s love through service and compassion. While most of our volunteers are church members, we also welcome non-members who are eager to serve.
