St. James Lutheran Church is committed to the full liberation of all people.
We seek to support each other in daily ministries that feed the hungry, heal the sick, provide allies for those in any abuse, change un-just structures, and proclaim God’s Shalom. We seek to facilitate, encourage and empower each member and friend of the congregation to be in ministry.
St. James makes a commitment to budget for the unexpected events of this world and sets aside funds for work outside the congregation This committee makes decisions on how those funds will be distributed throughout the year as they become available.
Six times a year we prepare and deliver a hot meal to this ministry for the homeless. You will also find collection bins at the Mission Center for collection of Clothing, Socks, and books.
Clay County Clothes Closet

MLM as it is known in shorthand, is a cooperative Social Service agency for which we host a branch site on our campus. MLM provides Assistance, Case Management, Older Adult Services, sponsors and annual “Christmas Store” for families to provide gifts of necessities and nurture to those who would otherwise not receive gifts at Christmas, housing assistance. More information available at www.mlmkc.org.
Back Snack/Family Pack
Is a program of sending nutrition home with children on reduced lunch through the weekend so that they can return to school sharp and ready to learn. St. James fills several backpacks weekly for students.
Prescription Aid for Kids
Through the local counseling offices at schools, we make sure that young people in need of controlled substance prescriptions for learning receive them in school.
St. James administers its own pantry for those who “fall between the gaps” for regular service and for members who need a little help from time to time.
Bread for the World (LINK)
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decisions makers to end hunger at home and abroad. Moved by God’s grace in Jesus Christ, we advocate for a world without hunger.
ELCA Malaria Campaign
A child dies from malaria every 60 seconds.
We are in a special moment to help turn this around. Since the start of the ELCA Malaria Campaign, ELCA members and our companions overseas have already seen a reduction in the number of deaths from this preventable, treatable disease. We are a church that believes God is calling us into the world — together. Working through Lutheran partners in Africa, the ELCA Malaria Campaign is uniquely positioned to help provide mosquito nets, education, testing, medication and more to help eliminate deaths from this disease — for good.
